Anonymous: do you think it's unprofessional for a musician to have piercings and tattoos? what about ear piercings that are discreet, or tattoos where most people wouldn't see?
Personally I don’t like tattoos or non-ear piercings, but there are a lot of musicians who have both. Ear piercings are no problem as long as you wear smaller earrings, and if you can’t see the tattoo then no one knows it’s there, so that’s fine. My thing with tattoos is what is the point if no one sees them except you (though if it’s sentimental or something it makes more sense).
Anonymous: I'm looking at a rosewood piccolo do you know if they are any good?
I don’t know anything really about rosewood piccolos, though I know Powell makes a piccolo using a type of rosewood. As always I would say try the instrument before you buy it, you never know if it will be a good fit from just looking at it.
Anonymous: I have a chest cough and it's really peeving me off. How do you practice when you get sick?
You have to cut up your practicing into smaller sessions. Do half an hour at a time and then treat yourself well between practice sessions. Do things to help sooth your cough, so it isn’t too bad when you play.
