Tumors and Music

I am the master of weird diseases. No really. But mostly I post about music and cute things that I enjoy. Every so often I talk about oral surgery. Feel free to ask if you want to know more!

When I move to the states to I have to start caring about football???

Nope. Especially since you are moving to New York. Ohio, Texas or Florida, that’s a different story.

People are digging up old status on facebook and I just found a series from my boyfriend in high school who live blogged his feelings while I was away with my family…. All I could think was “Oh dear god.”

A highlight: “is Jesus can I not go half a day without wanting her?”

Wicked! And EW GOD ENTRANCE EXAMS I might actually have to like pay a second year for their history notes. God.

History isn’t my problem. Theory is going to be hell on earth.  Luckily I have 12 years of piano or else that would be no fun either.

what did you play???

I am attempting to relearn the last piece I did when I was still taking lessons, so Wedding Day at Troldhaugen. I may end up taking a few lessons this summer so I’m completely ready for the piano test part of the the grad school exam things.

Anonymous: I saw your video about what not to do while practicing, and you said not to make a face during practicing and during performances if you mess up. In auditions though, my thought process (probably really messed up, actually) is that if I acknowledge that I made a mistake, whoever is watching will know that I know what I did wrong, whereas if i don't react they may think I have been playing it wrong the whole time and don't know it's wrong. Is that a messed up way to think? Thanks

I understand the thought process, but it can hurt you more than it can help really.  Most panels will assume you know there was a mistake and are looking for a complete musician, not a perfect one.  They would much rather see stage presence, composure and musical playing that acknowledgement of mistakes.  Stage presence is ruined when you show fear or recognition of a mistake, and sometimes you can even pull one over on a panel if you keep going like nothing happened and play musically.

It is possible that acknowledging your mistakes can help in a few situations, but it is a bad habit to get into.
