I'm Robin. I'm a 22 year old grad student who spends her whole life thinking about flute and music (and Totoro). I have struggled with oral surgeries and sometime post about it, but not very often. I post what I like, mostly music, and love answering any questions you may have! If you put instruments on music stands you shouldn't follow me.
gallifreyananglerfish: My best moment from last week was yesterday when our marching band won grand champions at a competition!
Amazing, congratulations. Also well deserving of my 20,000th post!
excessiveespresso: The best part of my week was when I got to meet the director of bands at the college I'll be attending next fall. And he actually likes me!
baronofthesky: So the flute section in the University of Delaware Marching Band a few years ago started using the word "flove" to mean flute love and I think we should probably spread that to the flutists of tumblr. and since you're tumblr flute mom, I figured you're the best one to get this started. So flove! <3
SO MUCH FLOVE!!!
Anonymous: hi I love your blog!! im im high school and auditioning for the honor band of America through music for all and im very nervous. I haven't auditioned for anything before and i feel like Im a terrible judge at how im doing. the audition is a recorded video though, so are there any tips on how to communicate through that most effectively? is it okay if I use a met?
Treat it like you would a performance. Pretend you have an audience and not a camera. If you have a mic you should use it!
flute-for-your-life: Sorry for sort of spamming your ask box with stuff. Another of my musical goals is to play the sonata my friend (and crush) wrote for me. He's one of the best pianists and composers I know, and he's only 17! I want to make him proud of his work and play it to the best of my ability, but I've been having trouble finding the time to practice because university gets in the way...
Never a problem. Yeah uni is kinda hard for practice time, which is hilarious since you’re supposed to be practicing for thing in uni. You’ll find some time I’m sure.
All my followers are badass and have really amazing goals and achievements. I am a proud flute mom/grandmother/godmother :)
Anonymous: I'd have to say my favorite musical moment from last week was when I found out I got second chair flute in concert band :) I placed ahead of two seniors, second only to a senior who is probably one of the best flute players I have ever known (personally). I was (and still am) so happy because flute is my passion. I don't know where I'd be without it. Yours has to be my favorite blog on tumblr, big fan! Your videos really help and inspire me a lot. (:
Congrats! That’s really awesome! Now take the experience and learn :)
Thank you so much. I’m really glad I can help my followers with what I post!
autumn-cutie: Favorite musical moment: Finally getting my setup fixed (clarinet) and greatest achievement probably that i made All State Band not once but tWICE IN A ROW BOOYAH MUTHA FUCKAS
Fixed instruments are the best kind of instruments :)
Also, HELL YES! GO YOU!
amandarka: I'm backstage waiting to perform. My guitarist cancelled 5 days ago-injured- and my pianist got the music two days ago! :) I can never shake the anxious feelings, even though it's been 15+ years of playing. Woo!
YOU CAN DO THIS! You have put in the time and effort and you know that you can do this, no matter the circumstances. Take a deep breath and enjoy!
mellofhorn: Hello! So toward the end of May, I picked up mellophone because I really want to march drum corps. My band director also wanted me to play french horn in class because we needed another horn player. I can already tell the brass playing is affecting my high register embouchure.. Do you have any tips/ exercises that will help strengthen those muscles?
Ummm I feel like a doubler is probably more suited to help with that because I’m not really sure how to combat brass tendencies. fruitplayer is the only one I can think of right now, but you guys double or have suggestions feel free to chime in!
weirdolamp1224: Hi! First, I just want to say that I love your blog, and I'm also a flute player. Still a beginner, as it's only the third year I've been playing. I think my favorite musical moment of last week was when my school orchestra finally got a Phantom of the Opera compilation piece together. Bye :)
deliciouslysardonic: My favorite moment from the last week was sounding GOOD for once on my audition material for ensemble placement stuff, my biggest goal is getting into the orchestra and the wind symphony (both of them top-tier groups at my university) and my biggest accomplishment thus far was finishing out my first year of college without screwing up (I came really, really close there though).
YAY! Good job and good luck :)
Anonymous: Lol probably one of my greatest goals in music right now is to make it into the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. I'm a flute player from small town Iowa, so we'll have to see how this adventure goes!! 😊
Big goals are the ones that push you the most. Good luck!
Anonymous: My favourite moment from last week was spending three days at an end of year 11 excursion with my year group. Going surfing, parasailing & million other things. My short term music goal is to play 'Singing in the Rain' with my sister. It's an easy song, but we were asked to play it by my great-aunt who lives in a nursing home. I want to make her a little happy by playing it for her.
